October 2010 - Red Lighthouse at Canal Park
This month's change of scenery comes once again from Canal Park in Duluth, MN. The downloadable images were taken by Cory Vandenberghe. This image was taken from the end of the canal overlooking Lake Superior.
August 2010 - The Arch at Tettegouche
This month's change of scenery comes once again from the North Shore in Northern MN. 'One of the most famous icons along the North Shore of Lake Superior is the Stone Arch found at Tettegouche State Park. As an icon it is photographed each year by thousands of visitors, many coming for the first time and some who are returning for another look. It had stood along the shores of Lake Superior weathering eons of storms, Minnesota winters and the occasional crash of a powerful wave from the mighty lake. But no more.
Over the past [month] visiting photographers were met with something they did not expect, the arch had collapsed. After years and years of erosion and weathering even rock must succumb. There were no reports of weather, no big waves, no storm. It appears that it was the simply felled by the ever moving force of time' - 2010 Gary Udstrand

July 2010 - North Shore Scenic Railway
This month's change of scenery comes once again from the North Shore in Northern MN. History comes alive on the Lakefront line of the North Shore Scenic Railroad. Each summer equipment from the museum makes the transition from static display to rolling stock on our working railroad. During the season several trains a day depart the historical Union Depot for a trip through downtown Duluth, Canal Park, along the shore of the Lake Superior and deep into the majestic North woods. Fully narrated tours tell the history of Duluth, the harbor, and the stories of the railroads that connected the people and transported the material that built the region.
June 2010 - Snapping Turtle
This month's change of scenery comes from our own parking lot in Corcoran, MN. The photo was taken last month by Cory as our not-so-friendly Snapping Turtle was making it's way across our parking lot. We later located the hole she was digging in the sand. We presume she was digging the hole to lay some eggs.
May 2010 - Devils Tower
This month's change of scenery comes from Devils Tower. The photo was taken last summer by Jamie G. from the road leading up to the tower next to the prairie dog village. Some facts on Devils Tower: It is the country's first national monument. President Theodore Roosevelt dedicated it in 1906. The tower is 1267 tall and overlooks the Belle Fourche River and surrounding valley. Devils Tower is sacred to over 20 native american tribes and is known by the names Bear's Tipi, Bear Lodge, and Home of the Bear to name a few. Science says the tower was created by a tectonic uplifting. Native americans have a variety of origin stories, many revolving around a bear and 7 brothers and sisters. The stories say the bear that caused the scratches in the tower when trying to get the brothers and sisters. Many native americans still utilize the site for sacred ceremonies.
April 2010 - Backyard Fox
This month's change of scenery comes from Brooklyn Park, MN. Jenny was fortunate enough to snap a few photos of her backyard visitor earlier this month. It's not often we see a Fox in the city. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the Robins in the birdbath from last year's Desktop Download.
March 2010 - Lake Cabin Sunrise
This month's change of scenery comes from Northern, MN. As March comes to a close, the Twin Cities had a rare first-ever March experience... No SNOW! With the warmer than usual March, many of us are looking forward to heading back up to our cabins for the spring and summer months. This picture was taken last summer, and helps remind of the excitement of re-opening our cabins, and laying in the sun!

September 2009 - Knife River
This month's change of scenery comes from the Knife River and was taking by Jeff F. The Knife River has a long history dating back to the first days of logging and commercial fishing on the North Shore. The first recorded American total-loss shipwreck on Lake Superior occurred at the mouth of the Knife River in 1838. The small town was also an important stop for both of the major railroads that used to serve the Northland.
August 2009 - Shell Canyon Falls
This month's change of scenery comes from the Shell Canyon Falls and was taking by Jamie G. The picture is the main falls in the canyon. It's very impressive the amount of water that goes over such a small waterfall as compared to Niagra, but when you can get so close, it's size overwhelms you. And the canyon walls are spectacular.
